Carmelo Spanó

I analysed thousands of startups as a VC. Learned what works, what breaks, and that I'd rather build.

Carmelo Spanó

I scaled Deliveroo's rider fleet during 600% growth, analysed thousands of startups as a VC at SFC Capital, and led Reef Technology's UK expansion from 2 to 100+ sites. Now I build DeliveryByte, AI-powered refund recovery for restaurants, and take on AI, data analytics/engineering/analysis, web apps, and automation projects.

What I've built (hardware)

26 Above pedal straps

26 Above pedal straps

Pedal straps made out of decommissioned Italian car seat belts. Initially bought a pair from a shop for my custom fixed gear bicycle. They were made out of leather and metal. After a few rides, I realised the metal attachment was damaging my shoes, so I built my own without metal parts and with a more durable material. Shared on fixedforum.it, the largest fixed gear bicycle forum in Italy, and ended up selling a few.

Sourced the Italian steel frame from subito.it, stripped the vintage Bianchi brakes and sold them to recover 30% of the initial investment, sourced the wheels directly from a factory in Bologna, replaced drivetrain, steering and brakes components. Painted in "bianco elettrodomestico" and "nero lucido". Sold at ~90% gross profit margin.
